Sant Antoni at a glance
Sant Antoni is a barri of the Eixample district. It takes its name from the 15th-century monastery of Sant Antoni Abat by the city wall, where the road to Fraga and Martorell began. Its centre is the iron market of Sant Antoni, built by Rovira i Trias in 1872–1882. The area took its present shape for the 1929 International Exhibition.

The housing stock
Almost half of the buildings date from before 1940 and one in five from before 1901. The average age of homes in the Cadastre is 82.5 years, one of the oldest stocks in the city. Only 3.4% of homes were built after 2001. Flats average 80 m², slightly smaller than in the rest of Eixample. For a buyer this means looking closely at the building's condition, common works and the owners' community documents.
Life on foot
The first phase of the Sant Antoni Superilla was completed in May 2018: a 1,800 m² square around the market and 5,000 m² of pedestrian space on Comte Borrell and Tamarit. Comte Borrell is also one of the Eixample green axes. On Sundays the Mercat Dominical runs by the market hall, along with the Encants de Sant Antoni. Block courtyard gardens include Tres Tombs (one of the first opened courtyards, with a nursery school, 2001) and Tete Montoliu.
Nearby metro: L1 and L2 at Universitat, L3 at Poble Sec, and the stations Sant Antoni, Urgell, Rocafort and Espanya on the edges of the barri.
What to check before you buy
- What is below the flat. Ground floors here host many bars, cafés and shops. Find out what operates downstairs and until when.
- Market noise. If the building faces the market, check whether early deliveries and the Sunday market can be heard.
- Ventilation and light. In old buildings with inner light wells, rooms can be dark. Visit in daylight.
- The building's condition. Meeting minutes, the debt certificate, planned facade and roof works.
- Tourist flats. The barri has 669 entries in the tourist-flat register (third quarter of 2026). The city has decided that all tourist-flat licences in Barcelona expire in November 2028.
Prices: what official data shows
The average price of sales registered at the Land Registry in 2025 was €5,278/m²; notarised flat sales averaged €4,603/m². Asking prices in listings in December 2025: €5,674/m². The average rent on new leases in 2025 was €1,118 a month, or €16.26/m², close to the city average. That is noticeably cheaper than the Dreta de l'Eixample, on the same Cerdà grid and just as central.
