- There is one modelo 790 and several codes: 012 for NIE and TIE (police), 052 for permits handled by Delegaciones and Subdelegaciones, 038 for UGE applications. You choose the code first, then the payment method [1][2][6].
- Code 052 is paid online through the AEAT payment gateway: you need a DNIe, an electronic certificate or Cl@ve. After paying, you must register the form and download the justificante [1].
- UGE fee: paid online by card, direct debit or Bizum; you get an NRC number, which you enter in the application. You can pay on behalf of another person [4].
- Code 012 on the police page is paid at a bank with a printed form, and you do not need an account there [2][5]. The official pages do not describe online payment of this code.
- Amounts for TIE and NIE: first TIE €16.08, NIE €9.84 as of 2 October 2026; UGE fee €73.26 for an initial application [2][4].
What is modelo 790 and why are there several codes?
Modelo 790 is a self-assessment form (autoliquidación) for state fees (tasas). Its number does not tell you what exactly you are paying for: the purpose is set by the code and the item inside the form. Three main ones come up in immigration matters.
| Code | What for | How to pay | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 790-012 | NIE, TIE, regreso, other police documents | At a bank with the printed form from the police website | [2][5] |
| 790-052 | Residence permits and other documents handled by Delegaciones and Subdelegaciones | Online through the AEAT gateway or at a bank with the printed form | [1] |
| 790-038, item 7 | Applications for mobility permits under Ley 14/2013 at the UGE (DNV and others) | Online, receiving an NRC, or with the printed form | [4][6][7] |
Which code you need depends on the procedure and the authority. How to choose is explained in the article on tasas 790: first the name of the procedure and the official page, then the modelo and the item. What the form itself is, is explained in the article what is modelo 790.
How do you pay modelo 790 code 052 online?
Paying code 052 online takes several steps, and skipping any of them leaves the payment unregistered. The sede electrónica Administraciones Públicas page describes the order as follows [1]:
- Open the form “Formulario 790 de Pago y Registro Electrónico Tasa 052” and select the province where you are paying the fee.
- Click “Realizar Pago” and complete the payment on the AEAT payment gateway.
- Return to the form, fill in any data if needed and click “Firmar y Enviar”: this is the electronic registration of the fee.
- Download the justificante that the registration returns. The status of the payment and registration is shown in the “Mis expedientes” tab.
To pay you need a DNIe, another accepted electronic certificate or access through Cl@ve [1]. How to get an electronic identity is covered in the articles on certificado digital and Cl@ve. Without electronic identification there is a second route: generate the form, print it, pay at a bank and bring the document to the office [1]. You take all copies of the form to the bank, even when paying by direct debit from your account [1].
How do you pay the UGE tasa for a digital nomad visa application?
The UGE fee is paid in advance and online, and the proof is attached to the application. The ministry’s FAQ says: for initial applications, both for the applicant and for family members, the €73.26 fee is paid by card, direct debit or Bizum, and after payment you receive an NRC (número de referencia completo), which you must give when applying [4]. Proof of payment is part of the document set [4][7].
You can pay for another person: the form has the option “pago en representación de otra persona”. In that case the “Datos de la autorización” section must contain the applicant’s own details [4]. The UGE page on submitting applications also mentions a printed form: modelo 038, item 7, “Solicitud de autorizaciones de movilidad internacional (Ley 14/2013)” [6]. If the payment is not shown on the 790 form itself, separate proof of payment is attached to it [7].
How do you pay the tasa for the TIE and NIE?
According to the Policía Nacional page, code 012 is paid at a bank with a printed form. The form is generated online: you enter the NIE and the payer’s details, select the line and get a document to print. Payment is accepted by banks, savings banks and credit cooperatives, where you do not need to open an account, and you bring the proof of payment to your appointment [2][5]. The form provides for payment “en efectivo”, “E.C.” and “adeudo en cuenta” [2].
Amounts and lines: first TIE €16.08, TIE on renewal €19.30, NIE on application €9.84 as of 2 October 2026; all options are in the article on the cost of the TIE. We did not find online payment of code 012 on the official police pages: if someone offers you such a payment, check that the link leads to sede.policia.gob.es.
Which mistakes most often ruin the payment?
All of the above adds up to a short list of things to check before you click “pay”.
- Wrong code or item: a payment under 012 does not replace a payment under 052 or 038, because these are different fees with different recipients.
- Wrong payer or wrong NIE. The form names the person who receives the service. A family needs a separate payment for each person.
- Payment without registration: for code 052, a payment without the “Firmar y Enviar” step is not complete [1].
- Lost NRC or justificante. Save them as PDFs straight away, in a separate folder.
- Outdated amount. Check the amount in the form on the day you pay: it may change [2].
You must not edit the PDF receipt yourself. If a payment was made incorrectly, ask the authority how to correct it or get a refund. What to do in your particular case depends on the procedure: decide it together with a gestor or a lawyer.
The DNV fee and how to apply are covered in the DNV route card and in the article on DNV fees; a general overview of the move is on the page Residence permit in Barcelona.
