What is modelo 790 and where to pay the fee

Modelo 790 is the self-assessment form for government fees on immigration procedures. The code on it determines the payment: 052 for residence, 062 for work, 012 for the NIE and TIE, while applications to the UGE are paid under tasa 038.

Information material, not an individual legal opinion. Conditions apply to each specific situation and may change.
In brief
  • Modelo 790 is a self-assessment form (autoliquidación): you choose the code and the item yourself, generate the document and pay. A mistake in the code or the item means you have paid for the wrong procedure [1][6].
  • For the general regime, codes 052 (residence permits, paid by the foreign national) and 062 (work permits, paid by the employer) are used [2][3]. For the NIE and TIE at the police you need código 012 [4].
  • Applications to the UGE, including the DNV, are paid under tasa 038 on the sede of the Ministry of Inclusion: €73.26 for an initial application, paid online before filing, with the NRC attached [5][7].
  • If you apply electronically, the fee is paid at the time of filing. If you file in the ordinary way, you have 10 working days from filing to pay, and the receipt with the NRC is sent to the authority within 15 days [6].
  • What you pay an agency or a lawyer for support is not a government fee; these amounts are shown separately in the quote.

What is modelo 790?

Modelo 790 is the general form for government fees in immigration procedures. The fee is self-assessed: you or your representative choose the fee code and the item (hecho imponible) and enter the payer’s details. After payment the bank gives you a copy with an NRC number, and that copy is your proof of payment [6]. The code on the form shows which authority the payment goes to and for which procedure.

Which codes do foreigners need?

CodeWhat forWho pays
052 [2]residence permits and documents for foreign nationals, procedures at the Delegaciones and Subdelegacionesthe foreign national
062 [3]work permitsthe employer; for an initial cuenta propia work permit, the applicant [6]

038 [7]permits decided by the Ministry of Inclusion: applications to the UGE and some exceptional casesthe applicant, and separately for each family member

On its page about UGE applications, the Ministerio de Inclusión calls this form “modelo 038, item 7” [5]. Who handles which procedure is explained in a separate article on extranjería and the UGE.

How much are the main tasas?

The amount for the initial DNV application is taken from the UGE FAQ, the others from the annex to Orden PJC/617/2025 [6]. The order provides for annual updating through the budget laws, so check the amount on the form before paying.

Work permit fees (code 062) depend on the salary and the type of procedure and are not in the table: for an initial employed work permit it is €203.84 with a salary below two SMI and €407.71 with a salary of two SMI or more (Orden, section 3.2.1) [6]. The amount of the fee does not depend on the decision on the application, and the payment itself does not affect the decision. The TIE and NIE figures are covered separately in the articles how much a TIE costs and how much an NIE costs.

Where to pay and what to keep?

For codes 052 and 062 the sede of Administraciones Públicas offers two options. First: an online form with payment through the AEAT payment gateway and electronic registration, which requires a DNIe, a digital certificate or access through Cl@ve. Second: fill in the form, print it and pay at a participating bank, presenting the copies of the form even if the amount is debited from an account [2][3].

For code 012 the form is generated on the police website and paid at a bank, savings bank or credit cooperative; you do not need to open an account there [4]. For tasa 038 for the DNV, online payment is accepted by card, account debit or Bizum, and you can pay for another person if you enter the applicant’s details [5].

Keep a copy of the form with the NRC: it proves payment and must be sent to the authority within 15 days of payment if you did not pay at the time of filing [6]. You cannot use one receipt for several people without checking: the fee is charged per procedure and per payer. Step by step: how to pay the modelo 790 fee. An overview of all fees is in the article tasas and modelo 790. If you are preparing documents for filing, see the document service.

Frequently asked questions

What is modelo 790?
It is the self-assessment form for government fees (autoliquidación): you choose the code and the item yourself, generate the document and pay. In immigration procedures the code determines what you are paying for: 052 for residence permits, 062 for work permits, 012 for the NIE and TIE at the police. [2][3][4]
Which modelo 790 code do you need for a TIE?
Code 012: the form is generated on the police website, paid at a bank, savings bank or credit cooperative, and the receipt is attached to the TIE application (form EX17). The amount for a first issue is given in the annex to Orden PJC/617/2025; check it on the form itself before paying. [4][6]
Where do you pay the DNV fee?
Under tasa 038 on the sede of the Ministry of Inclusion. You pay online before applying, by card, account debit or Bizum, and enter the NRC you receive in the application. The amount for an initial application is €73.26. [5][7]
How long after filing can you pay the fee?
If the application is not filed electronically, the voluntary payment period is 10 working days from filing, and the receipt with the NRC is sent to the authority within 15 days of payment. If you file electronically, the fee is paid at the time of filing, so prepare the payment in advance. [6]
Does the employer pay the fee for a foreign national’s work permit?
Yes. For employed work permits the employer pays, and for an initial cuenta propia work permit the applicant pays (art. 3 Orden PJC/617/2025). The foreign national pays the other fees. [6]
Is the fee included in the cost of support?
No, government fees are paid separately from support services and should appear on the quote as a separate line. The payment goes to the State, not to the adviser, and is proved by the receipt with the NRC, which you should keep. Translations and apostilles are also paid separately. [6]
