- €16.08: the fee for a first TIE documenting a temporary residence permit. It is paid using modelo 790 código 012 [1].
- Other lines on the same form: €19.30 for a TIE on renewal, €21.87 for a long-term residence TIE, €12.00 for the TIE of a family member of a Spanish or EU citizen [1].
- The fee for the card and the fee for the permit are separate payments. The first goes to the police under code 012; the second depends on the authority and the route [1][4].
- You must apply for the TIE in person within one month of entering Spain or of the day the permit was granted or took effect [3].
- Payment with the printed form is accepted at banks, and you do not need an account there [2].
How much does the TIE cost on first issue and on renewal?
A first TIE for a temporary residence permit costs €16.08, a card renewal €19.30, a long-term residence card €21.87. These amounts appear in the Policía Nacional online form for tasa modelo 790 código 012 and in the annex to Orden PJC/617/2025 (items 4.2, 4.3, 4.5, 4.6) as at 2 October 2026 [1][5].
| Which card | Fee, € | Source |
|---|---|---|
| First TIE (temporary residence, stay, cross-border worker) | 16,08 | Form 790-012, Policía Nacional [1] |
| TIE on renewal of the permit | 19,30 | Form 790-012 [1] |
| Long-term residence or long-term EU TIE | 21,87 | Form 790-012 [1] |
| TIE for a family member of a Spanish or EU citizen | 12,00 | Form 790-012 [1] |
A separate card is issued for each person: it is personal and cannot be transferred to anyone else [3]. For a family, the total is calculated by the number of cards.
What is not included in the cost of the TIE?
The card fee does not include the fee for the permit itself, translation of documents, photographs or a representative’s services. These are separate payments to different recipients.
The residence permit is paid for before you apply. For example, for the digital nomad residence permit, €73.26 is paid to the UGE for a first application; payment is made online and gives you an NRC number for the application [4]. For other routes the fee is paid on a different form and in a different amount: see the article on tasas 790. If you are planning a move, you can entrust document preparation to the team through the document service, and the general procedure for each residence permit route is set out on the residence permit in Barcelona page.
Official sources do not state how much photographs, copies and a gestor’s services cost: prices are not regulated. If you use a representative, ask for a quote with a separate line for government fees so you can see exactly what you are paying to the authorities.
How do you pay the TIE fee, step by step?
The TIE fee is paid at a bank with the printed form, and you take the proof of payment to your police appointment. This is how the Policía Nacional website describes the procedure: form 790 código 012 is generated online, and payment is accepted by banks, savings banks and credit cooperatives, with no need to open an account there [2].
- Open the online form tasa 790 código 012 on the Policía Nacional website [1].
- Enter your NIE and the payer’s details. Choose the line that is specifically about the TIE and specifically for your case: first issue, renewal or long-term residence.
- Print the generated document and pay at a bank. The form provides for payment in cash, by card and by direct debit from an account [1][2].
- Take the original with the bank’s stamp to your card appointment. Together with the EX17 form, this is the core set of documents [2].
We did not find online payment for code 012 on the official police page: it describes payment at a bank. Other fees, for example under code 052 or for the UGE, can be paid online; see the article on paying modelo 790.
What is the deadline for getting the card?
You must apply for the TIE in person within one month: from the date of entry into Spain, or from the date the permit is granted or takes effect. If its taking effect depends on registration (alta) with the Seguridad Social, the month runs from that date. This is set out in article 209 of Real Decreto 1155/2024 [3].
Failure to comply with card obligations is subject to penalties under Ley Orgánica 4/2000 [3]. How appointments and fingerprinting work in Barcelona is explained in the article on TIE and huellas.
How much does it cost to replace a lost TIE?
We cannot give the exact cost of a replacement. Under article 209 of Real Decreto 1155/2024, a lost card is replaced with a new one on application; the replacement does not count as a renewal, and the new card is valid for the remaining period of the old one [3]. In the list of 790-012 lines we did not see a separate line named something like “duplicate” [1]. It is best to check at the police station which line applies before paying. The steps are explained in the article on losing a TIE.
