- €73.26 for the initial UGE permit on form 790 code 038; the renewal amount is given in the tasa table for code 038 on the authority’s page, so check it before paying. Amounts as at 01.10.2026; they may be raised at the start of the year under the budget law [1][3].
- The fee is paid online before you apply: you receive an NRC number and attach the payment document. Anyone can pay it, for example an employer or a relative [1].
- The initial fee applies to each applicant: both the main applicant and each family member for whom a permit is being issued [1][2].
- The TIE card is paid for separately if the permit is valid for more than six months: first issue €16.08 [4][6].
- The consular visa fee is charged in local currency at the consulate’s rate, and the amount changes with the exchange rate [5].
How much the digital nomad visa costs at the UGE: tasa 790-038
The initial permit costs €73.26; the renewal amount is given in the tasa table for code 038 on the authority’s page, so check it before paying. The UGE gives the figure of €73.26 for initial applications in its FAQ [1]. The base fee amounts were set by Orden ESS/1571/2014 (€70.40 and €75.60 in 2014) and are raised at the start of each year in line with the state budget laws [3]. The amounts in this article are as at 01.10.2026; check them against the form on the sede before paying.
The law includes payment of the fee among the general requirements for the applicant (article 62.3 g) Ley 14/2013), and the fee itself becomes due when the application is submitted (additional provision 19) [6].

The UGE fee is paid on sede.inclusion.gob.es in the “Tasa 038” section: by card, direct debit from an account or via Bizum [1][2]. You cannot apply without the payment document: it must be attached to the application [1]. How 790 fees work in general is explained in the article Tasas 790, and the step-by-step application procedure is in the DNV route card.
How to pay tasa 790-038: step by step
The UGE fee is paid online before you apply, and the payment number is entered when you submit[1]. The payment procedure for code 038 was set by a Subsecretaría resolution of 25 May 2022[9].
- Open the Tasa 038 page on sede.inclusion.gob.es and go to the form to fill in[2][9].
- In section 7, “Solicitud de autorizaciones de movilidad internacional (Ley 14/2013)”, tick “Autorización de residencia inicial” for a first application or “renovada” for a renewal[1][8].
- If you are paying for someone else, choose “Pago en representación de otra persona”. The “Datos de la autorización” section still takes the applicant's details[1].
- Choose how to pay: Bizum, bank card or direct debit[8]. When paying by card or from an account, the form is signed with the certificate of the card or account holder, and the payment goes through the Agencia Tributaria payment gateway[9].
- After payment the gateway issues the NRC (Número de Referencia Completo). The document with the NRC and the form 790 details is your receipt[9].
- Attach the receipt to the application in the sede. If the payment is not shown on form 790 itself, attach the payment confirmation as well[7].
To pay online, the payer needs a NIF or NIE, an electronic certificate or another login method accepted by the Agencia Tributaria gateway, and an account with a bank that takes part in fee payments[9]. If something is missing, you can print the form and pay at a bank[8]. Another option is for a relative or representative to pay with their own certificate, but the form still carries your details[1].
Do not mix up the websites. Fees for cases handled by oficinas de extranjería are generated on the e-office of the Ministry of Territorial Policy, not on the Ministry of Inclusion e-office[2]. All 790 forms are explained in how to pay a form 790 fee.
Whether the tasa is paid for each family member
Yes. The UGE FAQ states that the initial fee of €73.26 applies both to the main applicant and to family members if applications are submitted for them [1]. The procedure description on the sede puts it differently: the payers are the “solicitantes de cada autorización”, that is, the applicants for each permit [2]. For a family of three, that means three initial fees if permits are issued for all three. The published materials do not say how the fee is calculated when a family renews.
Tasas for a family of three: a worked example
Every person who receives a permit pays the UGE fee: the UGE FAQ gives €73.26 for both the main applicant and family members[1]. Every person whose permit runs longer than six months also gets a TIE card[6]. Example: you, your spouse and your child file first applications from Spain.
| Payment | Per person | Payments | Total | Source |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UGE permit, form 790-038 | €73.26 | 3 | €219.78 | [1] |
| TIE card, first issue, form 790-012 | €16.08 | 3 | €48.24 | [4][10] |
| Total fees in Spain | €89.34 | 3 | €268.02 | [1][10] |
The calculation leaves out the consular fee if someone in the family travels on a visa, sworn translations, apostilles and insurance. Amounts are as of 01.10.2026: at the start of each year they are indexed under the budget law[3].
Renewals follow the same rule. The procedure page in the sede says the section 7 fee is paid for the main applicant and for family members alike, in the first application or the renewal version[8]. We did not find the renewal amount in the ministry's public materials; it appears in the form once you select “renovada”. The TIE card on renewal costs €19.30[10]. Family income requirements are covered separately: how much a family of three needs to earn.
How much the TIE card (790-012) and the consular visa cost
You must get a TIE card if the permit is issued for more than six months (article 76.2 Ley 14/2013) [6]. The fee for the first issue of the card is €16.08, and the order sets €19.30 for issuing the card on renewal [4]. The text of the order does not name the DNV explicitly: these lines refer to cards evidencing a temporary residence permit.
Consular visa: the Spanish consulate in Moscow says the fee is paid on application in local currency and the amount is regularly revised in line with the exchange rate [5]. We did not find a fixed amount in euros on the consulate’s page, so check your consulate’s fees before your appointment. What happens with the card in Barcelona after approval is described in the article TIE and fingerprints, and how long the whole procedure takes in how long the UGE takes to decide an application.
The card fee is paid with form 790 code 012 on the Policía Nacional website: its fee table lists €16.08 for the first card and €19.30 for the card on renewal[10]. This is a separate payment: fee 038 covers UGE's processing of the permit, not the card[2][10].
Whether tasa 790-038 can be refunded
The fee becomes due when the application is filed (additional provision 19 of Ley 14/2013)[6]. A refusal on its own is therefore no ground for a refund: UGE's public materials contain no refund rules for refused applications.
It is different if the payment was never linked to a case, for example if you paid but did not apply. Under the Ley 14/2013 procedure in the sede you can request a refund of a 790-038 fee that was not applied to a case (tasa no aplicada)[8]. The general rule is in Ley 8/1989: a fee is refunded when the taxed service did not take place for reasons not attributable to the payer[11].
To avoid needing a refund, check three things before paying: section 7 of the form, the inicial or renovada option, and the applicant's details in “Datos de la autorización”[1]. If a mistake has already happened, procedural questions can be sent to UGE at movilidad.internacional@inclusion.gob.es[2].
How the tasa differs from translation and apostille costs
Fees are only part of the budget. Sworn translations, apostilles and legalisation, notarial documents, health insurance and representatives’ services are paid separately [7]. If you work with ReloVictory, fees and translations are also paid separately from our fee, which is calculated individually by estimate. A general guide to the forms: Tasas 790: how not to mix up the fees.
The difference is not only the price. The fee is set by the state, it is the same for everyone, and you cannot apply without the receipt[1][3]. Translations, apostilles and legalisation are paid to providers and to authorities of other countries, each with its own prices. UGE still sets the requirements for them[7]:
- public documents not in Spanish are translated by a traductor intérprete jurado appointed by the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or the translation is made or checked by consulates under a separate procedure[7];
- other documents only need a sworn translator, and the CV can have a plain translation[7];
- foreign public documents are filed with an apostille or legalisation[7].
Official sources give no amounts for these costs, so we do not quote any. Where to find a translator: sworn translation in Spain; whether your document needs an apostille: apostille and legalisation.
