Yes, if you are going for more than 90 days: the Embassy of Spain in Astana states that third-country nationals who will stay in Spain for more than 90 days in any 180-day period obtain a national visa [3]. A short trip requires a Schengen visa: citizens of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are subject to the Schengen visa requirement, and the applicant must live in the embassy’s area [2]. The fee for applicants aged 12 and over is 90 euros, the decision period is 15 calendar days, and up to 45 if documents are requested [2].

What amounts of funds are checked?
The embassy in Astana publishes a bilingual table of financial means requirements by visa type. In the February 2025 version, the monthly amounts are obtained by dividing the annual amounts by 12 [5]. For the telework visa, the threshold in 2026 is 200% of the SMI: 2,849 euros per month (34,188 euros per year before tax), and 3,917 euros per month for an applicant with one family member [7]. We have not checked whether the embassy’s table has been updated for 2026.
Documents and apostille for Kazakhstan
Kazakhstan acceded to the 1961 Hague Convention, which has been in force for it since 30 January 2001 [6]. The UGE requires an apostille or legalisation of public documents issued by foreign authorities and a sworn translation of documents not in Spanish [8]. Criminal record certificates are needed from the countries where you have lived in the last two years, plus a declaration of no criminal record for five years [7]. We have not checked which Kazakh authority apostilles a specific document, or in what form.
What we don't know
The embassy’s page has no separate description of the telework visa, and we did not find an official document list for Kazakh applicants. We do not know how the embassy allocates appointments by week or what the waiting times are. The general sequence after the visa: residence permit in Barcelona on your own. For your situation, book a consultation. By country: DNV from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Georgia.
