Spanish nomad visa from Kazakhstan and CIS countries: where to apply

The nomad visa (DNV) is filed at the consulate for your place of legal residence: from Kazakhstan this is the embassy in Astana, from Belarus and Armenia the consulate in Moscow, and Georgia is covered by the embassy in Ankara. Income and documents are the same for everyone [1][2][9].

Information material, not an individual legal opinion. Conditions apply to each specific situation and may change.
In brief
  • The telework visa is applied for at the consulate covering your country of residence: the consulate in Moscow accepts citizens and legal residents of its district, and the UGE permit cannot be applied for directly from abroad [1][14].
  • Kazakhstan: the embassy in Astana accepts national visas by appointment, and the visa centres in Astana and Almaty accept Schengen and study visas. The embassy also covers Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan [5][7].
  • Belarus and Armenia are in the Moscow consulate’s district; Spanish visa centres operate in Minsk and Yerevan. Georgia is not in the Moscow consulate’s district: the embassy in Ankara covers Azerbaijan and Georgia [2][3][9].
  • Income for the DNV in 2026: €2,849 a month, i.e. €34,188 a year before tax; applicant plus one family member: €3,917 a month [1][14].
  • All four countries apply the Apostille Convention: Kazakhstan since 2001, Belarus since 1992, Armenia since 1994, Georgia since 2007 [12]. Criminal record certificates from Belarus and Armenia must be apostilled [1].
  • Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Georgia do not appear in the Seguridad Social list of social security agreements, and for an employee this means the company has to register in the Spanish system [13][14][15].

Spain digital nomad visa from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Georgia: where to apply

The general rule from the consulate in Moscow: the telework visa is applied for at the consulate covering your country of residence, and citizens and legal residents of that district may apply [1]. The UGE adds that the permit cannot be applied for directly from the country of origin: you need a visa from the consulate, and you apply to the UGE 60 days before the visa expires or while you are legally in Spain [14]. Each of the four countries has its own consulate:

CountryWho accepts the DNVSchengen up to 90 daysApostille: in force since
KazakhstanEmbassy in Astana, by appointment [5][7]Visa required [6]30.01.2001 [12]
BelarusConsulate in Moscow; centre in Minsk [2][3]Visa required [16]31.05.1992 [12]
ArmeniaConsulate in Moscow; centre in Yerevan [2][3]Visa required [16]14.08.1994 [12]
GeorgiaThe embassy in Ankara also covers Georgia; there is no separate DNV page [9]Ordinary passports are not named in the suspension [11]14.05.2007 [12]

Which visa goes to the visa centre and which to the consulate differs from country to country: check the consulate’s page before you book.

What is the same for all four countries

  • A relationship with the foreign company of at least three months on the date of application, and proof that the company itself has been genuinely operating for at least a year [1][13].
  • Income of 200% of the SMI: €2,849 a month, €34,188 a year before tax; applicant plus one family member €3,917 a month [1][14]. Calculation: income for the DNV in 2026.
  • A criminal record certificate from every country where you have lived in the last two years, and a declaration that you have had no criminal record for five years; the certificates are translated into Spanish and legalised [1].
  • A degree or at least three years of experience, insurance with no co-payments or waiting periods, a passport valid for at least a year with two blank pages [1][13].
  • NIE: the consulate in Moscow advises getting it before the visa [1].

The UGE accepts public documents issued by foreign authorities with an apostille or legalisation; for other documents a sworn translation is enough [13]. The procedure, using Russia as an example: apostille on Russian documents; the authorities that issue the apostille differ in each country.

Kazakhstan: embassy in Astana

The Spanish embassy in Astana covers Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan [7]. Schengen and study visa applications are accepted by the visa centres in Astana and Almaty with online appointments; the embassy itself accepts the other national visas by appointment [5]. The telework visa is on the embassy’s list of national visas [6]; as of 2 October 2026 we did not find a separate description of it on the embassy’s page. More on applying: how citizens of Kazakhstan apply for a national visa.

The embassy publishes a bilingual table of financial requirements; the February 2025 version calculates monthly amounts as the annual figure divided by 12 [8]. For 2026, use the UGE figures: €2,849 a month [14].

Belarus: consulate in Moscow and visa centre in Minsk

The Moscow consulate’s district includes Armenia, Belarus, Russia (except the region covered by the Saint Petersburg consulate), Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan [3]. Spanish visa centres operate in Minsk and Yerevan [2]. From 1 June 2026, residents of the district apply through the centre in their country of residence for study, internships, researchers, family reunification, employment, highly qualified workers and residencia sin finalidad laboral; the DNV is not named in the notice [4]. We could not confirm where a Belarusian living in Belarus applies.

Specifics: Belarusian criminal record certificates must be apostilled [1]; an expired Belarusian passport is accepted in Spain under the instruction of 19.01.2026 for people who are already there, but not for a visa from Belarus [18]. More: can Belarusians get a residence permit in Spain and residence permit for Belarusians: which grounds work.

Armenia: consulate in Moscow and satellite office in Yerevan

Armenia is in the Moscow consulate’s district, and a Spanish visa application centre operates in Yerevan [2][3]. Orden AUC/54/2025 of 13 January 2025 created a diplomatic antenna in Yerevan under the embassy in Moscow; the order does not mention any consular functions [17]. Citizens of Armenia need a Schengen visa for a short trip [16]. Armenian criminal record certificates must be apostilled [1]. We could not confirm how the consulate accepts telework visa applications from residents of Armenia.

Georgia: covered by the embassy in Ankara

The embassy in Ankara also covers Azerbaijan and Georgia [9]. The consulate in Istanbul, on its telework visa page, describes applicants living in Turkey: they need a long-term residence permit and an NIE at the time of application [10]. It says nothing about residents of Georgia. Since 15 August 2019 the consulate in Istanbul has accepted student visas from Georgian citizens and foreigners holding a Georgian residence permit; this is the only official mention we found [19]. For the DNV, ask the embassy in Ankara about the procedure in writing.

On 6 March 2026 the European Commission suspended Georgia’s visa-free regime for short trips for 12 months; the announcement names only diplomatic, service and official passports [11]. Visa-free travel is limited to 90 days and gives no right to live or work; for the DNV you need a national visa.

Turkey: the consulate in Istanbul and the embassy in Ankara

If you live legally in Turkey, you apply for the digital nomad visa where you live. The Consulate General of Spain in Istanbul covers the Marmara provinces (Istanbul, Kocaeli, Bursa and others), the Aegean coast (including Izmir and Muğla), the Mediterranean up to Mersin including Antalya, and the Black Sea provinces from Bolu to Artvin [20]. If your province is not on that list, for example if you live in Ankara, ask the embassy in Ankara about the procedure [9].

The consulate in Istanbul published its requirements on 7 January 2025 [10]:

  • You need an NIE already when you apply; you obtain it in advance through the consulate [10].
  • Residents of Turkey need a proven long-term residence permit and a certificate of registered address (İkametgah) [10]. Ask the consulate in writing whether your ikamet qualifies before you book an appointment.
  • A criminal record certificate from every country where you lived in the last two years, apostilled or legalised, and a declaration of no criminal record for the last five years [10].
  • Work for a foreign company for at least three months before applying and its consent to remote work; for the company, a register extract and a tax certificate for the previous year [10].
  • Funds of at least 200 % of the SMI for the applicant, 75 % for the first family member and 25 % for each additional one [10].
  • Health insurance from a company authorised to operate in Spain; travel insurance is not accepted. Documents in other languages need a sworn translation into Spanish [10].

The consulate takes the fee in cash and in the exact amount; check the figure against the notice on 2026 consular fees on its website [10]. Full details: applying from Turkey in detail.

Step-by-step process from CIS countries

  1. Identify the consulate by your place of legal residence: Astana, Moscow, or the embassy in Ankara for Georgia [1][5][9].
  2. Ask the consulate how to book specifically for the telework visa: some national visas are accepted by the visa centre [4][5].
  3. Gather the proof of your relationship with the company, income, degree or experience, insurance and social security [1][13].
  4. Criminal record certificates: apostille in the issuing country, sworn translation into Spanish [1][13].
  5. NIE: getting it in advance is recommended [1].
  6. Visa application, then the UGE application 60 days before the visa expires [14].

Social insurance and payments

The Seguridad Social list of bilateral agreements names Andorra, Russia, Ukraine and Moldova for Europe and China, Korea, Japan and the Philippines for Asia; Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Georgia are not on it [15]. In this case the UGE expects an employee’s foreign company to register in the Spanish system and the employee to be given alta [13][14]. A self-employed person needs RETA [14]. More: social security for an employee on the DNV.

Common mistakes by applicants from the CIS

  • Applying to a consulate outside your district: the consulate accepts citizens and legal residents of its district [1].
  • Assuming the visa centre accepts all national visas: the centre in Astana accepts Schengen and study visas, and the embassy handles the rest [5].
  • Mistaking the diplomatic antenna in Yerevan for a consulate: the order creating it does not mention consular functions [17].
  • Relying on the embassy’s 2025 table instead of the UGE figures [8][14].
  • Expecting an “A1-style” certificate from a country with no social security agreement [15].
  • Arriving visa-free for a short stay and hoping for a DNV without a visa [11][14].

When you need an individual review

Needed if you live in one country but are a citizen of another, work for a company in a third country, hold a residence permit outside the CIS, receive income through a platform, or have no degree. The consulate and the documents depend on your country of residence, so have such a case checked by a lawyer or gestor before you book an appointment and pay the fees.

How we can help

If you live in Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia or Georgia, we will help you work out which consulate or centre to go to with your ground, put together the file with apostilles and translations, and check it against the UGE requirements. Booking the consulate appointment and submitting the visa application has to be done by the applicant. Consultation: the first 15 minutes are free. Service: digital nomad residence permit; application steps: DNV route card. For Russians the procedure is different: digital nomad residence permit for Russians.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I apply for the digital nomad visa for Spain from Kazakhstan?
At the Spanish embassy in Astana, by appointment. The visa centres in Astana and Almaty accept Schengen and study visas; the embassy accepts the other national visas. The telework visa is on the embassy’s list of national visas, but as of 2 October 2026 we did not find a separate description of it on the embassy’s page, so confirm the list of documents in writing [5][6].
Which consulate accepts the DNV from Belarus and Armenia?
The district of the Spanish consulate in Moscow includes Belarus and Armenia, and Spanish visa centres operate in Minsk and Yerevan. From 1 June 2026, residents of the district apply for some national visas at the centre in their own country, but the consulate’s notice of 14.04.2026 does not list telework among those categories. Confirm with the consulate where an applicant living in Belarus or Armenia should apply [2][3][4].
Can I apply for the DNV from Georgia?
Georgia is covered by the Spanish embassy in Ankara, which also serves Azerbaijan. The consulate in Istanbul describes the telework visa for residents of Turkey; it says nothing about residents of Georgia. We found no official page on the telework visa for residents of Georgia, so the procedure has to be confirmed in writing with the embassy in Ankara before you book an appointment and pay the fees [9][10].
Do documents from Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Georgia need an apostille?
Yes, for public documents: all four countries are parties to the Hague Convention (Kazakhstan since 2001, Belarus since 1992, Armenia since 1994, Georgia since 2007). The consulate in Moscow explicitly requires Belarusian and Armenian criminal record certificates with an apostille and a translation into Spanish. For private documents a sworn translation is enough [1][12][13].
How much income does an applicant from the CIS need?
The threshold is the same for every country: 2,849 euros a month (34,188 euros a year before tax) for the applicant and 3,917 euros a month for the applicant with one family member. Your country of citizenship or residence does not change it; only the consulate and the list of certificates differ [1][14].
Do Kazakhstan, Belarus, Armenia and Georgia have a social security agreement with Spain?
No: these countries are not on the Seguridad Social list of bilateral agreements, while Russia and Ukraine are. For an employee on the DNV this means a certificate of applicable legislation under an agreement is not available, and the UGE expects the foreign employer to register in the Spanish system and the employee to be given alta. A self-employed person needs RETA in any case [13][14][15].
Do citizens of these countries need a Schengen visa?
Citizens of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Armenia need a Schengen visa for a trip of up to 90 days. For Georgia, on 6 March 2026 the European Commission suspended visa-free travel for 12 months only for diplomatic, service and official passports; the announcement does not suspend it for ordinary passports. For the DNV you need a national visa; a Schengen visa does not give you residence [6][11][16].
Can I apply for the digital nomad visa from Turkey?
Yes, if you live legally in Turkey. You apply at the Consulate General of Spain in Istanbul if your province is in its district; otherwise ask the embassy in Ankara about the procedure. Before applying you need an NIE and a proven long-term residence permit in Turkey. [10][20]
