Information material, not an individual legal opinion. Conditions apply to each specific situation and may change.
In brief
  • T-usual is a personal travel pass valid for 30 days from the first validation: unlimited travel on all modes of transport in the zones you choose. Zone 1 costs €22.80 [1].
  • The pass is personal: only the holder can use it, and identification is required [1]. It is loaded onto a T-mobilitat card: a personal plastic card (€4.50), a mobile wallet (€1) or a paper card (€1) [1].
  • The 2026 fares were approved on 19.12.2025 and apply from 15.01.2026. The 50% discount on T-usual and T-jove has been kept [2].
  • A zone 1 ticket is valid between the 36 municipalities of the Barcelona metropolitan area (AMB) [3]. T-usual takes you to the airport on the L9 Sud; T-casual does not [1][7].
  • For occasional trips there is T-casual (10 journeys, from €13.00), and for under-30s T-jove for 90 days (€45.50) [5].

What is the T-usual?

T-usual is a personal integrated travel pass from the ATM (Autoritat del Transport Metropolità), the body that runs the single fare system for Barcelona and its region. It is valid for 30 days from the first validation and lets you travel with no limit on the number of journeys in the zones you choose [1].

The integrated system covers the metro, trains, local railways, buses and trams: on one ticket you can change between modes of transport [4]. The pass is personal and identification is mandatory, so nobody else can use it [1].

How much does the T-usual cost in 2026?

The price depends on the number of zones. According to the ATM page as of 2 October 2026, the prices are [1]:

ZonesT-usual priceSource
1 zone22,80 €ATM [1]
2 zones30,55 €ATM [1]
3 zones42,70 €ATM [1]
4 zones52,15 €ATM [1]
5 zones59,60 €ATM [1]
6 zones63,85 €ATM [1]
7 zones67,65 €ATM [1]

The ATM approved the 2026 fares on 19 December 2025, subject to confirmation of the central government’s financial contribution. The new prices came into force on 15 January 2026, with an average increase of about 3.5%, and the 50 per cent discount on T-usual was kept [2][9]. A press release from the Ajuntament confirms the same dates and adds that the discounts are conditional: the State must confirm its share of the funding [9]. The T-usual page itself shows no date, so check the price at the machine or in the app before you buy. We found no decision for 2027.

Which zone do you need in Barcelona?

For journeys between the 36 municipalities of the AMB metropolitan area (18 in the first ring and 18 in the second), a one-zone ticket is enough. This rule applies to all integrated ATM tickets except T-16 [3].

If the start or end of your journey is outside these 36 municipalities, the normal zone system applies [3]. Use the ATM zone map to work out how many zones your route needs. Work out travel time from a specific address: see the article Barcelona neighbourhoods for families.

How do you get the T-usual?

T-usual is not sold on its own: it is loaded onto a T-mobilitat card. The ATM lists three formats [1]:

  1. Personal plastic card: €4.50, bought on the T-mobilitat website, in the app or at a customer service point.
  2. Mobile wallet: €1, you need a phone with NFC.
  3. Paper card: €1 surcharge, sold at ticket machines and official sales points.

The personal card and the mobile wallet require registration with T-mobilitat [6]. The paper card does not require registration, but only T-usual can be loaded onto it; other tickets cannot [6]. You can top up the pass in the T-mobilitat app, at network ticket machines and at sales points [1].

We could not find in public sources which documents an adult is asked for when registering. For a minor, T-mobilitat lists a DNI, NIE, passport, digital birth certificate or libro de familia [6]. Registering your address is explained in the article empadronamiento in Barcelona; the registration certificate, NIE and TIE are described on the page documents and procedures, and an overview of the grounds for residence is on the page Residence permit in Barcelona.

How does the T-usual differ from the T-casual, T-jove and other tickets?

The choice depends on how often you travel. Prices according to the ATM page [5]:

TicketWhat you getPrice from
T-usual30 days, unlimited, personal22,80 €
T-casual10 journeys, not personal, one person at a time13,00 €
T-jove90 days, unlimited, under 30, all 7 zones45,50 €
T-familiar8 journeys in 30 days, for several people11,50 €
T-dia24 hours, unlimited12,00 €
Single ticketone journey on one mode of transport2,90 €

T-casual is not valid at the T1 and T2 stations of the L9 Sud line; T-usual and T-jove are [1][7]. For children under 16 there is a separate T-16 card, issued for €4.50: it is given to residents of municipalities in the fare system and renewed free of charge until 31 December of the year they turn 16 [8].

Are there discounts on the T-usual?

The ATM lists social versions: T-usual FM/FN for members of large and single-parent families (from €18.20) and T-usual bonificada for unemployed people (€5.65) [5]. The conditions, documents and application process for each version are described separately on the ATM page; we do not repeat them here and have not checked which recently arrived foreigners are eligible. Where to go with city matters when you move is described in the article Oficina de Atención Ciudadana.

Frequently asked questions

How much does T-usual cost in Barcelona in 2026?
According to the ATM page, zone 1 costs €22.80, two zones €30.55 and seven zones €67.65. The 2026 fares apply from 15 January. The T-mobilitat card is paid for separately: plastic €4.50, mobile wallet or paper card €1. [1][2]
How long is T-usual valid?
30 days from the first validation. The number of journeys in that period is unlimited, and the number of zones is set when you buy it. The pass is personal: only the holder can use it. [1]
Can I get to Barcelona airport with T-usual?
Yes. The ATM says T-usual is valid at the Aeroport T1 and Aeroport T2 stations of the L9 Sud line, and on any public transport to the airport in general. T-casual is not valid at these stations. [1][7]
Do I need to register to buy T-usual?
Registration with T-mobilitat is required for the plastic card and the mobile wallet. The paper card, which can only hold T-usual, does not require registration. We could not find in public sources which documents an adult is asked for. [6]
Why is T-usual better than T-casual?
In zone 1, ten T-casual journeys cost €13.00, that is €1.30 per journey. T-usual at €22.80 pays for itself from roughly the 18th journey a month; with fewer journeys T-casual is cheaper. The exact calculation depends on your route and changes. [1][5]
Can a child travel on T-usual?
For children under 16 there is T-16. For young people under 30 there is T-jove for 90 days at a single price for all zones. T-usual is personal and charged at the adult fare; child conditions do not apply to it. [5][8]
