How much savings you need for the digital nomad visa

If your salary is a little below the threshold, the UGE accepts savings that cover the gap for the whole permit term. The calculator works out that amount for you and your family under the 2026 rules.

How the calculator works

The digital nomad visa income threshold in 2026 is 200 % of the minimum wage, i.e. €2,849 gross a month for the applicant. Add 75 % (€1,068) for the first family member and 25 % (€356) for each further one[1][3].

The UGE list says that if work income is below the threshold, you must show with bank certificates savings or other liquid funds that cover the gap for the whole permit term[1]. The calculator takes the monthly gap and multiplies it by the number of months:

RouteTermRule
Consular visaup to 12 monthsArt. 74 quater Ley 14/2013[2]
UGE permit from Spainup to 36 monthsArt. 74 quinquies Ley 14/2013[2]
Renewal24 monthsArt. 74 quinquies Ley 14/2013[2]

Certificates must be in the applicant's name and stamped or signed by the bank[1]. The calculator does not account for exchange rates or tax, and the UGE may assess your case differently. How income is proved: proving income to the UGE.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get the digital nomad visa if my salary is below €2,849?
Yes, if savings cover the gap for the whole permit term. They are proved with bank certificates in the applicant's name. [1]
How is the savings amount calculated?
The gap between the threshold and your monthly income, times the number of months in the permit. The UGE does not publish a formula; this is a literal reading of its document list. [1]
How much savings does a family need?
The threshold rises by €1,068 for the first family member and €356 for each further one, so the gap and the savings rise too. Choose your family size in the calculator. [1][3]
Do savings in another currency or abroad count?
The UGE list accepts certificates from Spanish or foreign banks. Which exchange rate to use is not officially defined: keep a margin and state the rate and date in a cover letter. [1]
